Outline of the painful and long struggle I have been through. Three years ago I suffered from severe acne caused due to some medicine that I was prescribed for my migraine. The medicine left my face with clusters of painful cystic acne, it made my face swollen, mouth dry etc etc. This lasted me for almost 3 years and trust me i have tried all hacks and tricks to get rid off it but couldn't. Today I have finally managed to find a way to treat it and it worked for me like wonders.
First thing that I learned from my situation was don't try to be an expert by watching YouTube videos or other blogs just pick yourself up and approach an expert this will fasten the process of healing. It took me almost three odd years to understand the basic principle of treating an acne. This doesn't mean i haven't used any medicine at all I have used a lot of composition available in market of benzyl peroxide, isotretoin, salicylic acid but none showed the result that was needed. As my doctor says there are many species of bacteria or factors that cause acne and they have own way to be treated. Over the counter drugs may not be the answer for every situation and can sometimes worsen the condition as that in my case. My acne was almost resistant to the above drugs.
Second be true to what is prescribed or suggested by the doctor. Patience is the key for anything and everything. With the medication it is also suggested to look after the diet and skin care. For instance No sugar, No bread, No junkies, No oily makeup or products, No picking or popping pimples, No touching face and this list goes on.
Now let me share the secret skincare regime that helped me to accelerate the time of healing.
I mostly do it as a night care regime or when i have to take off my makeup as it removes every drop of makeup residue and makes my skin breathable and glowy.
(Below is a small video clip of every step stated in this blog )
Step 1: Cleanse:
Clean you face to remove all the oil, sweat and dust particle that stick as this is one of the important factor to cause acne. Use face wash that are mild, non fragrant and
non-comodegenic. I use Cetaphil cleanser it was prescribed to me by my dermatologist. You can go for face wash or cleanser that suits your skin that works fine too sometimes I use Everyouth neem and turmeric face wash. And at times when I am drowned in makeup I clean my face with Garnier Micellar water and Wet wipes specially the one used for babies as the content are baby safe and are not over powering like that of other alcohol based wipes. I wash off the face wash with lukewarm water.
Step 2: Scrub:
For scrubbing I don't use any market product or formulation I prefer using rice powder or sugar and tomato juice for scrubbing my face. They are natural and easily available in every kitchen.
Also, watch out with the pressure don't put too much strength while scrubbing, it will rather irritate the skin and cause eruption of active pimple leading to more acne in future or drying of skin. There is also a risk that the pus get in deeper so just apply minimal pressure and work in circular motions.
Step 3: Steam:
This is the most crucial step and also important one. Take a jug of warm water that is bearable not too hot. Dip in a clean cotton or microfiber cloth and place it on the affected area. Do this for not more than one min each side. In total steam your face for 3-4 mins to open up all the pores and make skin ready for deep cleanse. This step will dilate the blood vessel and open the pore, increase the flow of blood which will help in treating the acne faster.
Step 4: Face Pack:
Go for DIY face packs or whatever suits you I personally prefer using Multani mitti or Rice powder with used green tea leaves and rose water. This will soothe and tighten your silk. Multani mitti is known to deep clean the skin so it will clean the skin properly as the pores are open it will clean the pores too. And rice powder provides a skin brightening and tightening effect. You are free to use any combination as per your choice and preference. Let the mask be for 10-15 mins or till the mask dries. I sometimes use sheet mask on the lazy days. The face shop, Garnier and Nykaa sheet masks are quite affordable and effective. See to it you don't put on the mask for more than 15 mins as it has the tendency to pull away moisture from your face as it runs dry.
Step 5: Tone:
Wash off the face mask with luke warm water followed by patting skin with clean towel to dry. Now tone your skin with any toner or rosewater. This will help skin to regain the moisture and your skin wont be left dry after all the washing. I use Bay-leaf concoction as it is said to have antibacterial and anti fungal property.
Step 6: Moisturize and Massage:
Use your moisturizer, anti ageing cream, serum, medicament as this is the final step of the whole regime. I use Patanjali Aloe Vera gel followed by Olay anti ageing cream and Acnestar on the area with marks and acne. Also massage your cream properly into your skin this will increase the rate of absorption and circulation of blood.
This regime will help you achieve glass skin and treat acne effectively.
If you have pimples on the forehead area it may be due to dandruff or fungal infection that happens around the hair line. Wash off your hair every third day or as soon as it turns oily. Once a month massage your hair with oil let your hair soak the oil see to it you don't oil it overnight just couple of hours is good.
